The Site is a small freshwater lagoon which is one of a chain of lagoons in an otherwise dry coastal area. The northern half of the lagoon is mostly a large area of open water while the southern half is largely covered with rush and sedge. The Site supports rare and scientifically valuable species. It is a habitat for six nationally threatened plant species considered to be at risk in Tasmania, including the yellow onion-orchid (Microtis atrata) and the zig-zag bog-sedge (Schoenus brevifolius). The lagoon also supports microcrustaceans and macrocrustaceans, including the burrowing freshwater crayfish (Engaeus laevis). Human activities include land clearance, recreation and off-road vehicle use.
