Overview

Valle Cavanata. 10/03/78; Friuli-Venezia Giulia; 243 ha; 45°43'N 013°28'E. Special Protection Area EC Directive. The site, a fish pond, was created from coastal lagoons and wetlands. The freshwater parts of the site support reedbeds, salt-resistant vegetation and submergent flora, including Zostera beds. The area is important for breeding and passage birds, with up to 10,000 occurring during migration periods. Human activities include commercial fish farming and tourism.
