Overview

Kuannersuit Kuussuat. 27/01/88; Qeqertarsuaq; 5,190 ha; 69°38'N 053°17'W. A broad valley subject to recent glacial influences, consisting of moraine debris and small pools. A braided river system flows through the site, draining adjoining glaciated mountains. Several hot springs are found within the site, and the glacier at the head of the valley, as of May 2002, had surged 10km in merely four years, now covering 14% of the Ramsar site. The area is important for several species of breeding waterbirds. Some harvesting of the area's natural resources is carried out by local people. Ramsar site no. 383.
