Overview
Is-Simar. 29/01/96; 5 ha; 35°57'N 014°23'E. Nature Reserve. A human-made coastal wetland consisting of a saltmarsh, a central pool with islets supporting dense salt-resistant vegetation, shrubs, Acacia trees and Aleppo pines. Noise pollution from a nearby road creates some disturbance. Water levels are maintained by precipitation, run-off, and saltwater seepage through the porous substratum. Human activities include picnickers and campers. There are bird observation hides available. Ramsar site no. 789. Most recent RIS information: 1998.
